Saturdays

Saturdays truly are a wonderful invention.

Mine started off by sleeping in until 8 am (trust me - that's sleeping in for me). Bailey didn't actually wake me up this time - I just woke up right around that time and couldn't go back to sleep. So I was able to wander into the kitchen to make pankcakes and enjoy CMT's Top 20 Videos! It's becoming a weird Saturday morning tradition, but the music is great and I enjoy seeing what they can do with the videos.

Then I finally got a huge chunk of time to pick up the apartment. Dishes were done, and then I got distracted. Oops! They shouldn't show movies on TBS when I need to pick up! And, what's a Saturday cleaning without a Taco Bell lunch break? I got their new chicken taco salad, thinking "oh this will be interesting"- it was AWESOME! It of course didn't look anything like it did in the picture, but it was good and and I would get it again.

The morning was slightly sunny, but some storm clouds were hanging around. I wanted to take Bailey the dog park, but the rain finally caught up to the clouds. Which stinks, because he came back from camping with a cough and he's finally better and I wanted to take him out.

But hopefully Sunday will be sunnier and I can get outside!

I came, I saw, I camped.

Well it's been a few days since I've been back, and I can confidently say that work has kept me busy. That, and Justin is getting me to play tennis! I'm definately awful, but he keeps telling me that's what practice is for. Anyway, that's a whole other post.

Camping was great! The weather behaved very well, with a few small rain storms on Saturday, and we got some nice walks in around Manitou Lake. It was nice to be so close to Woodland Park and close to the Springs because the drive up and back was practically nothing. When it rained, we took cover in the tent and caught up on some good reading.

Bailey was a little stir crazy for the first 12 hours or so, causing himself to get bronchitis and a bout of diarreah. But Saturday afternoon he got familiar with his surroundings and and calmed down. I think the next trip he'll do really well. So catch up with the pictures posted below!

I'm soooo ready for...

Camping season!! Every year, I can’t WAIT to go camping! I’m not generally a self-proclaimed “outdoors girl”, but I really enjoy camping. Which is funny, because it’s dirty and hot, with pitching tents, hiking, and most times there are no bathrooms or showers. But I still love it! I love being outdoors and seeing the beautiful scenery. I love the smells from the trees and rain and pine cones and wildflowers. I love how quiet everything is. I love hiking and taking it all in. I love being able to actually sit down with a book, and read for several hours and not even notice the time flying by. I love being away from answering e-mails and phones, and setting for classes, and going a million miles an hour. I love waking up and walking out of the tent into the morning haze and just taking a deep breath of fresh air, knowing that I have no real responsibilities for the day. I can finally just … relax.

A couple of weeks ago, I emailed my dad to see what he wanted to do to celebrate Father’s Day. He told me that my mom would be out of town that weekend and that he was going camping with his Sunday School class. He wanted to know if I’d like to join him! Rather than having him #1 – camping by himself, or #2 – being alone on Father’s Day, I said yes! (That, and the fact that I love camping, as previously mentioned). So this is my “gift” to him – a weekend of camping with one of his children! (And grandpuppy!)

And finally this year I’m taking Bailey! I know he’s only a year and a half, so he’s still a “puppy” but he has matured over the past year. He is only hard to control because of his sheer size. But he is now aware of where I am and that he’s not supposed to go too far off, as opposed to last year when he would have just torn off into the woods. He’s been walking with me for 30 minutes a day almost everyday for the last 2 weeks, so he knows how to walk with me, and won’t be tired as quickly. He’s still a little hyper, but has calmed down tremendously (despite what it may appear to my parents when he goes over to their house). Once nighttime approaches, and he’s had his food and exercise, he mellows out and is normally happy just chewing on a bone at my feet or cuddling with me on the couch. I think that since he will have his mind and body stimulated more than normal this weekend that he’ll be more tired at the end of the day – which will be nice for the other campers.

Plus, once he’s familiarized himself with his surroundings and the people that are there, he’s fine. He becomes used to them being there, and just needs the initial “Who are you and what do you smell like” introductions, like most dogs. All I’m waiting on is for his brain to catch up with how big he actually is, and then he’ll be 100% grown up! Which, according to other Weim owners, is in another 2 years, when he’s around 3 years old.

It goes without saying, but I will say it anyway – check back next week for pictures!!! I’ll post a few on here, and probably all of them on Facebook.

Dog Days at the Broadmoor

Today was the 2nd Annual Broadmoor Dog Days - an event for all of our employees and their "fur" children. It is held at a dog park that is less than a mile from my apartment, and I normally go to this park several times a week. So for this event, I walked there! It was right around this time last year that I was moving into my first apartment, so I didn't stay too long at that event, but I also had a 6 month old puppy that I was trying to wrangle. Enjoy some pictures of my co-workers and I enjoying a nice day out! (I also posted a new blog on Bailey's page - so click here to see more pictures of the "Bailey Monster"!)

Day of Dogs

And I wanted to play with everyone of them!!

I went to the Colorado Kennel Club's dog show yesterday, and it was my first dog show ever! Sure, I've watched a ton on tv, but I had never been to one. And it was exactly what I thought it would be like. I couldn't have been in a better place - this was my element!! Maybe I should do something with dogs for a living?

Not sure what these are, but I loved their fur and their coloring!
There were 20 Weimaraners!!
A Great Pyrenees
And a Great Dane! I lost my heart to a big blue Dane with floppy ears, who looked just like Bailey. But he left before I could get a picture.
Rodhesian Ridgebacks -I never knew you could show 2 dogs at the exact same time! This lady walked them around the ring sid by side. Beautiful - and I love the white chests!
And my co-worker, Patty, showing her 9 month old Papillon Bug! She is as "cute as a bug"!

All in all, I had a great day and I couldn't help but wonder why I hadn't gone to a show sooner!

And then after several hours at the dog show, I went home and took Bailey to the dog park! Check out those pictures (including my new favorite picture) on Bailey's blog!

Stress Reliever

What a pretty nice way to end a stressful, frustrating day at work.

I have just gotten an urge to watch old movies all night tonight. And I’m talking the black and white ones.

It’s been raining for the past few days on and off, with occasional instances of hail. Today, the high was only 54 degrees, and the location of my desk is nowhere near a window. I just love watching rain, especially big storms, where I can see lightening and experience those loud booms of thunder. You know those kinds where the floor shakes and you can feel it in your chest? Yea, I love those!

So if I could only curl up on the couch with some hot coffee, a warm dog and some nice black and white movies with a raging storm outside…it would make my day!

Turkey

Take a close look at this picture:

Top row, 6th-8th frames ... I bowled a turkey on Saturday!!!!

Our HR Staff, or at least most of us, went to Denver on a bowling day to the Denver Athletic Club. I normally don't dig bowling, and I really suck at it. My first round didn't go so hot, but then the second game I rocked!! I'd like to think I got the third strike because as I was bowling *hint hint* - "1985" by Bowling for Soup came on the jukebox!!!! Not only did that make it destiny, but they went to North Texas, and so did I - so my turkey was "willed" to happen by the UNT spirits!

Either way, that's the first turkey I've ever gotten, that I can remember. I doubt I got one when I was little, but if I did, I have no idea. I should go bowling more often!

New apartment

So here's how I lived for about a week before moving:

Here's a preview of the new 2 bed/2 bath. You might want to bookmark this post, because you'll never see it this clean again!

The only other pics I have are of the bedrooms, but those are square rooms, so I'll spare you those.

Lazy Much?

I know - I'm a terrible owner. But, my dog really knows how to relax. You should check out Bailey's blog here. I post even less on his blog than I do on my own. He doesn't have fingers though, or a working knowledge of English, let alone computers. So...click on the link above, and enjoy my silly puppy!!
